Google Puts off its Page Experience updates to June 2021

Page Experience Updates

Last year, Google announced that its Page Experience algorithm to be up and live by this year, but Google has rescheduled the update to June 2021. To improve the page experience, Google has been planning to introduce new tools to help publishers and sites to make improvements.

Page experience update to roll out by mid of June

Google is planning to use page experience as a ranking factor in the upcoming days. Google has also informed this change won’t be available till the end of August.

“You can think of it as if you’re adding a flavouring to a food you’re preparing. Rather than add the flavour all at once into the mix, we’ll be slowly adding it all over this time period.” – Google

When the page experience algorithm will be updated the pages with good content will be highlighted. This will ensure the audience has a better page experience. This update won’t be drastic but the site owners should keep a note of it.

Google will be making these changes little by little so that they can monitor changes and unintended issues and solve them.

With the upcoming of this update, Google has been gathering feedback from site owners to make a better page experience for their users.

What will be included in the Page experience update in Google Search?

Google has revealed the key ingredients of the page experience update in Google Search and they include

  • Core Web vitals – which are used to provide better quality signals
  • Largest Contentful Paint( LCP) – which is used to measure perceived load speed
  • First Input Delay (FID) – which is used to measure load responsiveness
  • Cumulative Layout shift (CLS) – which is used to measure visual stability.

These updates will be included in the upcoming page experience updates in Google Search.

In addition, the top story carousel feature in Google search will also be updated. This will be applicable to all the news content that meets Google news policies. By using this feature you will no longer need to use Amp format for any of the pages.

“We’re also bringing similar updates to the Google News app, a key destination for users around the world to get a comprehensive view of the important news of the day. As part of the page experience update, we’re expanding the usage of non-AMP content to power the core experience on news.google.com and in the Google News app.” – Google

In addition to this, Google will remove the Amp badges for the pages with Amp content. These are a few key points that will be included in the page experience update that is to be rolled out by the mid of June 2021.

Coming to an end, there are many other tools and features yet to be rolled out in the upcoming days. These updates will help the publishers and the users improving their site performance and page experience in the Google search result page SERP.
